THE SHILOH METHOD
HOW WELL ARE YOU?
The word WELLNESS, although a modern term, has taken its key canons from both Eastern and Western holistic and preventative traditions. The 21st century has seen a significant drive towards the wellness movement with various clean-living, preventative medicine, self-care, diets, fitness and spiritual practices evolving and becoming mainstream. Although social media is often criticized for its infiltration into society by creating the idea of the perfect physique whilst promoting fast diets and other fitness fads, it is undeniable that it has popularised the concept of wellness.
Shiloh Living defines wellness as a conscious and active process of pursuing a lifestyle through choices and activities that contribute to holistic health.
This definition highlights two main points: that wellness is not passive and requires awareness which is intentional and continuously evolving to achieve maximal potential and that it transcends physical health and is multidimensional. It is positive and affirming. Happiness, well-being and health although connected to wellness are distinct in that they are a static state of being. For example, “being happy”, “being well’ and “good health”. Wellness is the active work towards a more optimistic, holistic outcome.
Current models of wellness can include up to 12 dimensions of wellness. The Shiloh Method combines these dimensions into three key tenets: Shiloh Sóma, Shiloh Psychí and Shiloh Pneuma.
